Mixed Media Collage No. 19

High on Whiteness (Insurrection Series) | 2021 | Mixed media; cut paper and printmaking ink on BFK RIVES 100% cotton paper | 22.5 x 30 inches

The Washington Monument is meant to show man's greatness, as it stands in no one’s shadow. It is designed in the obelisk shape, the oldest and most complicated architectural style of ancient pyramids. Although it appears simple, it was incredibly challenging to build. Slaves helped build it, as they did much of Washington, DC. This 555-foot white, pointed phallus stands in no one’s shadow. Its whiteness reflected all the colors we don’t want to see, as the U.S capitol was seized by the white-hot rage of white supremacist insurrectionists on January 6, 2021.
